Where Your Journey Begins

Your first acupuncture visit will last approximately 1.5 hours. When you arrive, you’ll be invited into a warm and calming space that is your private healing oasis for the entirety of your visit.

Prior to your acupuncture treatment you can expect an in-depth consultation where we discuss your symptoms, health history and health goals. If necessary, there may also be a brief physical exam. This generally includes taking your blood pressure, heart rate and temperature. Most appointments and especially the first appointment will include a TCM tongue and pulse diagnosis.

After your initial consultation, pre-packaged sterile acupuncture needles will be gently inserted into specific points on the body. Most people find this to be a very relaxing experience. You may feel sensations of tingling, floating or heaviness in the body. Often patients fall asleep on the treatment table.

Other modalities may be used during your treatment. These include:
  • Cupping therapy
  • Bodywork
  • Gua sha
  • Electro-stimulation
  • Moxibustion
  • Stay nourished and hydrated during your acupuncture appointment. Eat as you normally would and please don’t skip a meal in order to make it to your appointment. If you have low blood sugar issues, eat a small snack about 20 minutes before your appointment.
  • Complete online paperwork in the Unified Practice patient portal. A link will be sent to the email address that you provided when you booked the appointment.
  • Bring any relevant lab work to your appointment.
  • Complete the Covid Screening form no more than 1 day prior to your visit.
  • Bring a well fitting face mask. Depending on Covid transmission rates in the area, masks may be required.
  • Wear loose fitting comfortable clothing that can be easily adjusted as needed for your treatment. Loose flowing pants or leggings that will easily roll up to above the knee, a short sleeve shirt or one with sleeves that easily roll above the elbow and a bra with a clasp are ideal (for access to points on your back).  Areas that we commonly need access to are your legs, arms, stomach and back.
  • You’ll get a chance to use the restroom right before your treatment.
"I have been to many acupuncturists over the years and Heather is the most gentle! With her needling technique, there is zero pain which makes a big difference for me."
